The Story Behind the Design: A Tribute to the Iconic "Pink Pig"

The inspiration behind this controller’s design dates back to 1971, when Porsche reimagined the 917 race car to dominate the Le Mans circuit. To achieve speeds of 400 km/h, Porsche redesigned the wheel arches, making them more rounded and integrating the wheels into the arches to reduce air turbulence. The front end was also flattened for improved aerodynamics.

When the owner of sponsor Martini saw the redesigned car, he jokingly called it a “fat pig” and refused to place Martini’s branding on it. In response, Porsche embraced the humor, painting the car pink and adding red dashed lines to resemble pork cutting diagrams. This bold move brought the legendary “Pink Pig” to life, and it became an unforgettable icon in racing history.

Precision Printing: Crafting the Dashed Lines

The signature dashed lines on the controller are created using advanced pad printing technology. While the design may appear simple, achieving it required 33 meticulous printing passes. Each pass demanded flawless ink quality, precise machine calibration, and expert craftsmanship, as even the smallest error could result in wasted materials.

The most difficult challenge was ensuring the dashed lines seamlessly connected between the front and rear shells, maintaining a continuous flow across the entire controller. After consulting with nearly ten production facilities and undergoing four months of rigorous sample testing, only the most experienced factory dared to take on this intricate task. The result is a design that perfectly captures the essence of the Pink Pig.
